Aaron Adame grew up in Southern California and lived there until God called him to the Pacific Northwest. In August 2017, Aaron became the Lead Pastor of Canby Christian Church and moved to Canby with his wife, Michelle, and their two daughters.
At the age of twenty, when religion was furthest from his mind, Aaron experienced the unimaginable—he became a Christian. And after hearing that God loved him and wanted a relationship with him, though He knew all the wicked and sinful things he had ever done, it broke his pride and caused him to cling to God for grace. It was all or nothing for Aaron, so when he accepted Christ, everything in his life changed—his vocational path in life was no exception. After serving as a ministry assistant for six years, he became an ordained pastor at one of the largest and most influential churches in Southern California. He has filled many roles in the church, including leading high school students and small groups and launching a satellite campus. Aaron has earned a bachelor’s degree in applied theology from California Baptist University and is currently working to complete a Master’s Degree in Bible and Theology.
Aaron has been described as "passionate." Everything that he does, he does with purpose, vision, and care. Aaron loves everything about ministry; he especially enjoys seeing people come to faith and believers using their spiritual gifts and calling. The church is the one thing he never knew he always wanted and needed. Though Aaron understands community is possible outside the church, he believes the Body of Christ is the only place where, ideally, a person can be honest and transparent and still be loved, accepted, and cared for—like a true family. For this reason, Aaron has a passion for the local church and to see believers reaching their local community in conjunction with local assemblies.
Being from the crowded cities of southern California, Aaron loves the city. it would not be random so run into him and his family in downtown Portland, eating at a new foodie spot they found on yelp or through a local lead or sipping third-wave coffee and the many awesome coffee shops in downtown. But he also loves the outdoors—hunting, camping, and golfing. His favorite vacation spot would be somewhere sunny and hot, near a clear body of water and great food within close proximity. Though not originally from the PNW, he has a pioneer spirit and is not content to settle—He's a pilgrim aiming to please God, yet perfectly content in the center of God’s will.
Pastor of Worship and Youth
Kari joined the staff October of 2018 to serve as the Kids Ministry Director. Her primary role on staff is to to develop Sunday morning kids ministry programs for children age 0 through Grade 6. She was born in Southern California and moved to Canby with her family at age 9. Since 1989, she has primarily lived in Canby, aside from a couple years out of state. She accepted Christ at a young age and was modeled a life of service in ministry by her parents. Kari has a deep love and appreciation of children and their spiritual foundation, as well as leading leaders in their next steps of their faith journey. Kari is passionate about seeing young families thrive and have the necessary support and encouragement that is needed to do so.
Kari and her husband Michael were married in March of 1998. They have four children, Delaney, Bree, Connor, and Sydney. Their family has enjoyed several cross-country road trips and their favorite place to spend time away is Sunriver. They enjoy family time, game nights and movie nights at home. As Foster and Adoptive parents, Michael and Kari have a sincere love and passion for orphan care. In her free time, you can find Kari enjoying a good book, brushing up on her painting skills, or maybe even on a date night with Michael learning how to Ice Curl. She enjoys spending time with close friends and getting out in nature.
Melody has lived in Oregon for the past twenty-one years, but her Hoosier roots still reveal themselves in many ways—most obviously in her writing. She enjoys crafting novels about Indiana, which keeps her connected to her home state. In addition to story writing, Melody expresses her faith, either in a devotion or prose style, in her monthly blog.
For Melody, friendships in the church are like no other friendships. At Canby Christian church, she appreciates the fellowship she shares with other believers and sees the way God works through His people. Different verses have spoken to her over the years, but Philippians 4:6-7 is one that brings her great comfort: “. . . do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”
Dave became a new creation in Jesus at the age of 35. While living in Alabama, not yet a Christian, God was working in his heart in many areas. One night God showed him a “movie” of all the sin in his life. He couldn’t bear the weight of his sin as God had revealed it to him. God reminded Dave that Jesus died so that he could be forgiven and cleansed and become His. He prayed right then, confessing his sin, and asked God to forgive him and to take control of his life. He knew in that moment, everything was different. He was different—he was forgiven and he was a new creation!
Almost four years after he became a Christian, His wife, Debbie, gave her life to Jesus. They moved back to Oregon a short time after that. They have been members of Canby Christian Church for over twenty years. Dave is an avid hiker, and he loves spending time in God’s creation. One of the most exciting adventures, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, allowed him to raise funds for a school project to benefit children in Uganda —a passion very close to his heart. Dave has a deep love of God, His Word, and His people. As an Elder, he faithfully serves the body of Christ at Canby Christian and has a strong desire to lead others to Christ.
In January 2013, Shaun, his wife Devon, and their daughter Maggie walked through the parking lot doors of Canby Christian Church. They knew immediately they had found their home. What they didn't know was how God was going to stretch, shape, and transform them into His image. Almost immediately, they started getting plugged into Life Groups, then served as greeters. Shaun quickly found that he loved to serve and would jump at opportunities to do so. Most recently, you will find him leading the Men’s Ministry, hanging out with the high school youth group Wednesday night, and playing bass with the Worship Team.
Kody joined the staff of Canby Christian Church in September of 2019 as the Pastor of Worship and Students. He was born and raised in a Christian home in Vancouver, WA. While there were ups and downs to his faith journey, he always felt God’s call on his life and has been a devoted disciple of Jesus since young adulthood. Kody can’t point to a single instant where something clicked and everything changed, rather he sees how God has been consistently pruning and shaping him, little by little, into Christ’s likeness (with quite a bit of shaping yet to be done, of course).
Kody and his wife Emily were married in 2009. Emily is the Director of Operations for a small missions organization called Go Inc. Together they have two wonderful daughters, Tylinn and Rylee. They have a strong influence on who Kody has become and he is blessed to love, support, and empower them with his life.
Kody has a bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry from Hope International University and continues to have an appetite for learning and discovering, especially when it comes to ministry and spiritual growth. He has served as a pastor in the Pacific Northwest since 2011 in worship, youth, small groups, and associate pastor roles.
As a younger, less mature Christian Kody began to pursue music ministry simply as a way to play music every day. But as he grew in his passion for Jesus, he discovered that he didn’t want to just lead people in songs of worship but to lead people into living lives of worship. Kody has been growing in his passion for meaningful discipleship and spiritual growth ever since. He loves to join fellow Christians in praising God and to inspire people to take their worship beyond the walls of the church, into their homes, work places, schools and neighborhoods. Kody is also excited to connect with the Middle School and High School students here in Canby. He has always loved seeing young men and women begin to own and personalize their faith in Jesus and Kody is privileged to play a role in seeing that happen in the lives of Canby’s youth.
