Happy September! Summer is ending. School is back in session and things are gearing up for the Fall season. As this is only my second Summer here in Oregon, I was expecting a slow-paced couple of months—it turned out to be anything but that. With High School and Middle School camps happening, a Youth Mexico Mission trip, and an incredibly successful Day-Camp for our elementary and Pre-k aged kids and families, the Summer was busy. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who served in these opportunities. You were a part of God’s work in changing lives. I trust that he was also at work in you, transforming you as well as you experienced God is ways that you had never before. Along with all of those great ministry opportunities, we also saw some changes as well. Quentin Bemis, who served for us as an interim worship leader, moved back to Indiana, along with his wife Renee and son Lincoln, to serve at Sherwood Christian Church as a worship leader. Quentin is a passionate, competent, and faithful worship leader and follower of Jesus. We will miss him here, but we are also so grateful for the season we had with him and wish him and his family all the best. But that wasn’t all the change. Connor, our Student Director was approached in July to take a position as a student pastor at Eagle Christian Church in Boise, Idaho. After much time in prayer and counsel, Connor accepted the position and has since already started. Connor is a talented young man with a heart for students and reaching young people with the gospel. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bummed, mostly because our church has lost a gifted leader, but I am so excited for Connor and the new opportunity—it will be good for him in this next season of his ministry career. I also am excited, even to lost a gifted person like Connor, because I know that another church is going to benefit from his gifts. Our desire is to be a kingdom minded church, so we are excited to send him out with love and prayer. I am certain that we will see him again when he comes to visit as this church will always be a home away from home for him. And yes, there is more! We have been on a search for a worship leader for some time now. The delay, I believe, is because God was waiting for the right time to bring the right person for the job and opportunity. In July, we began discussions with Kody Antisdel for a possible candidate for the position. When these discussions started, so much was in the air. And even though it felt a bit chaotic, it was also very exciting, knowing that God was up to something good. Just last week, we offered Kody the position of Pastor over worship and students, which he enthusiastically accepted. He and his wife, Emily, are planning their move from Gig Harbor and Intrepid Christian Church as we speak. I know Kody is excited to plug into the church and the community of Canby and make this place his home and mission. Kody will start with us on Sunday the 22ndof September. That’s all I will say for now, as I am sure Kody will write in the next Newsletter an introduction. Until then, please be praying for him, his family, their transition, and everyone involved. But more importantly, that God would work through him in powerful ways as he joins our church family, the staff and leadership team.
